Backlit glass wall panels, London
Stunning backlit glass wall panels fill an alcove at Cavendish Venues' main premises in the heart of the City of London. Three panels of Stratum Glass butt together depicting a 16th Century map of London, and are backlit with a backlit array of LEDs.
The ancient map image was chosen because the venue itself contains a genuine part of a Roman wall running through one of the conference rooms, many hundreds of years old. The challenge was to find an old London map image that not only fitted the shape of the alcove, but was of sufficient quality and resolution to be displayed at 3.6m x 2.7m. After some research we discovered the wonderful resource that is the National Library of Scotland. With their expert assistance we found the ideal image.
The extraordinary detail in the image is preserved at the final size, and still looks sharp even when right up close to the glass. A stunning feature that preserves, illustrates and showcases London's great heritage.
